i am soooo new to all of this...

i would like to add simple graphics or text ads to either the left or right column...

i have no idea how to add this.

am i adding modules?

do i download a plug in that makes this happen?

or am i just missing something very basic with the template?

You should read the [url="http://docs.joomla.org/Beginners"]Beginner's Guide to Joomla[/url] on the Documentation website. That will help you a lot in learning how to add new modules and images. But, just to answer you now, here's what I know you can do to get started.

Go to your module managers page and create a new one. Click "Custom HTML" and a new page will open. You will now have the ability to add images and text to a custom module with the WYSIWYG Editor. Make sure you select the right module position and publish it.
